I’m not a musical theatre buff by any stretch but I really enjoyed Magical Musicals showing now in Sunway Lagoon Amphitheatre. It is a high quality production with a cast of leads from the West End in London, a talented team of ย international dancers, including a few from Malaysia. The show had songs from popular musicals. It had dancing. It had fireworks. It even had a Bhangra percussion group!
Check out some of the rehearsals, sneak peaks, and reviews for a taste. I think if you enjoy Glee, Moulin Rouge, Mama Mia, etc you will definitely enjoy Magical Musicals. The amphitheater wasn’t full which is a shame I thought โ but on the other hand it meant that Pei Chyi and I could move closer to the stage.
Special thanks to @TourismSelangor for giving Pei Chyi the tickets in their Twitter contest. Follow them, they may still be giving out tickets! Otherwise you can purchase your tickets from AirAsiaRedTix.com
P.S. If you’re a arts and theatre noob like me (I’m not shy to admit it!) a musical theatre is basically a story told through song and dance. It’s not as boring as it sounds. Really.
glad u enjoyed it babe! i did too ๐
couldn’t help but sing along to that moulin rouge number!!
oh and heh…don’t stop believin’.
and dancing queen.
oops…
Hi! Really glad you enjoyed the show… do you think it will encourage you to see more musical theatre?!? We’re really enjoying performing here, so I hope lots more people come along as well. ๐
Hi Stephen! Thanks for stopping by. I think I would definitely be more open to watching musicals. Unfortunately it’s always quite expensive. The cheapest tickets are typically RM100-150โten times as much as a cinema ticket!
Hope you guys enjoy your stay in Malaysia. Say hi to the rest for me! ๐
I will say Hi to the guys.
I understand about the cost. It is the same in the UK. But hopefully when people know that you get to see all the performers, singing , dancing and acting live on stage, hopefully they will think it is worth it.
Anyway, if we have made you a bit of a convert to musical theatre, then that’s a good start! ๐
Thanks for the link! ๐
Just out of curiosity, is the amphitheatre airconditoned? or not?
Hi Bob, no the amphitheater isn’t air-conditioned. However they have gigantic fans and it’s actually not too warm. I would advise going in shorts anyway though. Enjoy the show!
I can’t wait for my show time next week! How do I get to this amphitheater? Do we have to go into Sunway Lagoon or Sunway Pyramid?
Hey Iz! The amphitheater is in Sunway Lagoon itself, and is quite a long walk from the park entrance. Thankfully they have buggies to transport you. Check with the mall to find out which exit is closest to the park. Dress light, it’s an informal affair so ditch the high heels. Have fun at the show!
Thank you for your reply! No heels, got it! ๐
Thanks for your reply. No heels, got it! ๐
David, went to watch the show last night. It was A.W.E.S.O.M.E! I bought the yellow zone tix but ended up in the VIP seats..It was really an amazing experience. My favourite is the Umbrella/Singin’ in the Rain mashup..Thanks for your tips the other day. It was very helpful!
I found the show a bit of a let down. While the singing was great though a bit unfamiliar to myself. The dancing had little heart, kicks weren’t full, spacing on stage ran amok at times. Overall not a good first experience for my niece.
Cast are very well experienced, shows in their sluggish moves.
Hope for a better show next time, I love musicals.
